What are submersible pumps?

Let’s dive deep now. No pun intended, of course. We are going to talk about submersible pumps and why they are used and in what type of operations. A submersible pump is designed to work completely submerged in the water it is transporting.

According to the type of water for which they are intended, these water pumps are divided into submersible pumps for clean and dirty water. Submersible clean water pumps are most widely used to supply drinking or domestic water to households. They are intended for installation in water bodies, reservoirs, wells, and boreholes.

Submersible water pumps are more efficient than regular water pumps when it comes to everyday use. They are suitable for pumping water from wells and tanks. They are applicable for domestic and industrial purposes and for irrigation of agricultural lands.

A feature of these types of pumps is that their capacity is higher than a regular water pump. They have the ability to pump water from a greater depth without any modification. In addition, they can work in more difficult conditions and on terrains where other types of pumps would not cope.

But these are only a small part of the advantages of submersible pumps. They are also distinguished by the fact that they work extremely quietly in water. It is precisely this quality that makes them very suitable for all household purposes.

These pumps have another advantage. Since they are completely submerged in water, this helps them pump the liquid more efficiently and the engine cools optimally.

Application of submersible pumps for polluted environments

Submersible pumps for contaminated water can be conditionally divided into pumps for slightly to moderately contaminated environments and channel pumps.

The pumps for lightly to moderately polluted water are designed for draining wastewater. However, this does not include the water from the toilet. Typical applications of this type of submersible pump are the dewatering of flooded spaces. They are also used to drain underground and rainwater water.

These pumps are characterized by a small free passage through which solid particles can pass – usually up to 10 mm. They can be made of technical plastics, cast iron, and even stainless steel.

Waste Applications.

Sewer pumps are designed for draining slightly and heavily polluted water, including from toilets, into the sewer system.

Here, the main two types of pumps are the open impeller, submersible pump, and cutter pump.

The open impeller pump is characterized by a large free passage for solids, reaching up to 100 mm in large sizes. Its characteristic of them is the large connection diameter for the pressure pipe. The purpose of this and the large clearance is to prevent clogging, resulting in infrequent removal, cleaning, and servicing of the submersible pump.

With this type of submersible pump, high pressure is not required. Exactly the opposite. When the sewage has to be taken high about the location of the submersible pump, pumps with a cutting knife are recommended. It should turn into a slurry of all the solid impurities in the water.

Submersible Pumps Are So Cool.

These pumps operate submerged in water and are practically cooled by it. For example, in submersible pumps, the suction movement of the water flows over the motor before entering the suction section. In this way, it cools down. When there is a danger that the flow is not at a sufficient speed, a so-called cooling jacket (mantel). Its role is to optimize cooling.

There are submersible pumps where the suction is lower. The water is then transported through the engine compartment and cools the stator windings. For some pumps, simply being covered with water is enough to cool their motor.

Therefore, when choosing a pump for water supply, all parameters of the environment in which it will be installed must be taken into account. This is the only way to ensure an optimal and trouble-free operation of the submersible pump.
